Rtn. Dr. Deepak Purohit will be the first District Governor from Raigad district. An ever smiling personality with superb oratory, Deepak has all the good points required to lead our new district 3131 during 2009-10 as District Governor.

Deepak hails from Pali, which is famous for one of the Ashtavinayaka temple. He passed M.B.B.S. and M.S. in Orthopedic Surgery, always remaining at top of the rankings. He started practice as an orthopedic surgeon and started the first Orthopedic Hospital of Raigad district; the hospital is now 40 bedded with all modern amenities like arthroscopy and joint replacement surgery, The hospital is ISO 9001/2000 certified. Ann Veena has done M.D. (Gynecology) from the same college. She manages the obstetrics and gynecology section of the hospital. Deepak is proud member of professional organizations like Indian Orthopedic Association ASAMI, Indian Arthroscopy society and Association of Spine Surgeons of India, and many others. He is a founder member of Raigad Medical Association.

Deepak is very active in various social activities in Panvel within and outside Rotary. He is president of Project Committee of Prabhakar Patwardhan Smriti Rugnalaya', an ambitious charitable hospital project in Panvel. He has developed and is maintaining a municipal garden near Naonath Mandir, Mumbai Pune Highway; single handedly. He was awarded PANVEL BHUSHAN Award 4 years back for his selfless social activities in Panvel.

Deepak joined Rotary club of Panvel in 1989. RC Panvel, incidentally is one of the oldest clubs in our district, chartered way back in 1960. (The club will enjoy its Golden Jubilee during Deepak's tenure as DG.) He was president of the club during 1998-99. He has held various district level posts like Assistant Governor (2001-02), Dist. Chairman-polio corrective surgery (2002-03), member-nomination committee (2003-04), Avenue Chairman-Polio (2003-04), Governor's Aide for Centennial Celebrations (2004-05), Dist. leadership training team member (2005-06), Av. Chairman-Community Service 2005-06), Avenue Chairman-International Service (2006-07) and later he was elected as DG for 2009-10.

Deepak’s social work is mainly in the field of polio corrective surgeries, done over a period of many years. He has done hundreds of surgeries in Raiged district, along with other clubs and R. C. Panvel, through matching grants. He was a leader of team of orthopedic surgeons, operating in various polio corrective surgery camps in Hapur- (May 2001), Saharanpur, Haradhwar, etc., almost a on a yearly basis. He has worked as Rotary Volunteer in multiple camps held in Africa as an Intercontinental Healthcare Project. The countries he visited for this purpose include: Ethiopia, Zambia, Nigeria, Malawi and Madagascar. Rotary International has taken cognition of his tireless humanitarian work and he was felicitated at the hands of R, President Rtn. Glenn Estess, and TRF chair Carlo Ravizza at Delhi in 2004, as well as by RI president Bill Boyd in 2006. In 2007, he was recognized by 'Service above self Award, which is the highest individual award is given to a Rotarian for his selfless social work.

Deepak has gained repute as Orator par excellence. He has tact of using his oratory skills to direct Rotary discussions to a practical solution. He is concerned and active in empowering all the clubs in Raigad district. He is an excellent company for a friendly chat and always accessible for advice, in spite his busy professional and Rotary schedule.

Ann Dr. Veena is also an active Innerwheel member; she is a senior gynecologist, hospital administrator to manage the show in Deepak’s absences for Rotary work, an accomplished painter, as well as an excellent cook and host. The couple is blessed with two sons, Mandar and Manish; who have continued academic legacy of the parents and always topped in exams with flying colours. Mandar has completed M.B.B.S. and doing internship, while Manish is pursuing his career in computer Technology in V.J.T.I., Mumbai. Deepak is a TRF Major Donor himself and all his family members are Paul Harris fellows.
