Anti Guthka Awareness at Sajnabai Bhandari School Anti Gutka Awareness Programme for Boys of Sajanbai Bhandari School was held on 10th August. Total no. beneficiaries was 130.These Boys come from Slums in Tadiwala Rd., where more or less in every household one or more family members are addicted to Gutka/tobacco/alcohol. The Speaker was our Rtn.Dr.Rama Sivaram. PP Slides were shown illustrating the various types of poisonous substances present in Gutka/Tobacco, which included Nicotin , Arsenic, Methanol, Tar etc. According to the Speaker about 400 toxic substances have been detected and all these cause Cancer of the mouth, neck, stomach ,lungs as well as infertility. Every hour one person dies of oral or lung cancer and rate of oral cancer is highest in in India. A short Film shown depicted how cancer affects different organs and surgical procedures performed on them. A simple experiment performed by lighting a candle and holding a plate over the flame showed how much black soot is deposited on the plate. Participation of the boys was encouraging. Though none of them admitted to have tried Gutka or any other addictive substances; most of them said their mothers, fathers or elder brothers are addicted. These students were advised by Dr. Rama to explain the consequences of these addictions to their family members and help them to come out of it.
