He welcomed the board of directors. MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS BOARD MEETING Board took note of the previous board meeting held on July 1, 2023. Minutes circulated earlier, were reviewed and approved by the board REVIEW OF ACTION ITEMS FROM PREVIOUS BOARD MEETING 1 Status of accounts from previous year Accounts have been finalized and ready with CA 2 Rotaract Club of Akurdi Phoenix Youth director was not present. President provided update that RI has not yet taken action to terminate the club 3 Status on resigned members As Director Membership was not available, President provided updates on various members who had tendered their resignation 4 Stewardship Committee for past projects Rtn Kalyani Kulkarni will provide the update on forming of the committee in next board meeting CLUB ADMIN UPDATE Rtn Seema Sharma provided the plan for the next 4 weeks. The President shared the results of the meeting day, time and venue survey conducted in earlier weeks. 70% of the 23 respondents voted to continue to meet on Sunday morning 9 am. It was resolved to accept the popular vote. There was a discussion on the venue and the need to optimize meeting expenses. It was resolved to continue to meet at Hotel Kalasagar and explore options with the hotel management on cost optimization. SERVICE PROJECTS Rtn Gautam Shah appraised the board regarding the visit to OncoCare hospital in Talegaon. The hospital has requested support to setup an ICU facility for cancer patients. Cost of the project is 40L. The population in the vicinity served by the hospital is 25L. The hospital will provide ICU care free of cost to all patients. It was resolved to study the project in more detail and make it a candidate through a CSR partner Rtn. Shah informed that 1 E-Learning kit was given to school in Junnar. It was donated by Rtn. Shah. It was proposed and agreed that going forward, the beneficiary school would need to contribute 20% of the overall cost of the E-Learning kit The board decided that it was necessary to review the sustainability of the sanitary pad machines already installed at various schools before distributing more machines. The club could look at focusing on vocational courses instead as this can provide longer term benefits. It was proposed and agreed that the President and CSR director would attend the CSR meet hosted by RC Nigdi. Club to showcase Sukanya project FOUNDATION District has recognised contributions made to the Foundation by Rtn Jaswinder Sokhi and Rtn Shashikant Sharma MEMBERSHIP 8 prospective members being actively pursued. 3 will complete 3 meetings next week and will be eligible to be inducted as members. If Board approves membership and club dues are paid, these members will be inducted on Aug 27 Several Board members have expressed reservations about the suitability of a prospective member of our club. IT Director Sanjay has resigned from the club. His position on the board needs to be filled TREASURER Club dues received from 13 members. RI and District dues to be paid by Aug 15 TRUST MEETING President proposed to call tryst meeting to discuss and approve formalities related to compliances and other business OTHER DISCUSSIONS Rtn Umang brought up issues related to low discipline and side bars during formal meetings. | Minutes of Meeting | Our club meeting on August 5, 2023, was action-packed, the agenda crammed with reports covering two weeks of activities, announcements, and engaging speakers. President Ajay Chitnis began the proceedings by welcoming and exchanging flags with visiting Rotarian K. Raisinghani from Jaipur, and Rtn. Aruna Rathi, President of the Rotary Club of Pune Downtown. He gave an update on the GST issue, and said that the Mahableshwar picnic had been a huge success. President Ajay also gave a quick rundown of other ongoing events and projects, including the valedictory function and awards ceremony of the Coastal and River Banks Clean-up, Eye Check-up Camps, Financial Literacy Training, distribution of utensil kits to the flood affected, a generous CSR contribution by the Desai Brothers, the Gift of Vision surgery project, a memorial for Mrs Gita Vir, the Mega Tree Plantation Drive at Gathagram, and the installation of Interact Clubs at Sayuddh School Hadapsar and the Anjuman Islam School. The new theme where Past Presidents get the chance to reminisce about their year in office continued with PP Ebe Chaney reflecting on his eventful term from 1989–90, which he called “a remarkable period of my life” during which he focused on improving attendance at club meetings and strengthening fellowship. We extended birthday greetings to Col. V. Nandakumar (Retd), R’Ann Dr. Bhavna Rote, Rtn. PP Prakash Gurbaxani, R’Ann Gaury Mohile, Rtn. PP Jinendra Munot, Rtn. Giri Sakhrani, Rtn. Dr. Arti Khatter, R’Ann Disha Patel, Rtn. Tony Sachdev, R’Ann Deepa Dharane, R’Ann Dr. Pushpa Yadav, Rtn. Prasanta Choudhury, and Rtn. Vipen Malhotra. Good wishes for their wedding anniversaries were offered to Rtn. Baakir and R’Ann Razia Baker, and to Rtn. Parvin and R’Ann Neena Malhotra. We then moved on to the highlight of the evening as R’Ann Dr. Sita Bhatia introduced the guest speaker, Rtn. PP Sanjiv Kumar, who gave an entertaining and informative talk on ChatGPT (Generative Pre- trained Transformer), an Artificial Intelligence tool created by the research company OpenAI. Rtn. Sanjiv presented several examples of the impressive scope of ChatGPT, requesting it to develop meal plans to his specifications, to compose a Hindi song with lyrics in the style of Javed Akhtar, a poem in English in Shakespearean verse, and an Urdu nazm à la Mirza Ghalib. It was abundantly clear that we are entering a brave new world in which a software application can respond within seconds to questions and prompts to compose articles, stories, social media posts, code, and emails. It remains to be seen whether the inevitable downside of these artificial innovations will result in people forgetting to use their thinking capacity and losing their creativity. The enjoyable evening was rounded off with Happy Hours and dinner hosted by Rtn. Sanjiv Kumar. |
